If your application is pending for longer than the processing time projected on your receipt, and you have not recently received any type of notice or update from the USCIS/NVC, or if you have questions about whether a visa petition has arrived at the Consulate or whether a case is ready to be scheduled for an interview, etc, you can contact USICS, NVC or the proper U.S. Consulate.
USCIS case status inquires:
Step 1: Contact the National Customer Service Center (NCSC) at 1-800-375-5283. Before calling the NCSC please have available your receipt number, alien registration number, type of application filed and date filed.
Step 2: If more than 30 days have passed since you contacted the NCSC and the issue has not been resolved or explained, you can email the proper USCIS Service Center to check the status of your case.
Step 3: In the event you do not receive a response within 21, you may email the USCIS Headquarters Office of Service Center Operations.
NVC/Consulate case status inquires:
You can contact NVC/Consulate via email, mail, fax, etc.
1. Review your case;
2. Confirm that case status inquiries is appropriate;
3. Contact USCIS/NVC/Consulate to inquire your case status;
4. Keep client informed of the case status.
